The IP232™is a compact Internet modem which seamlessly connects stand-alone RS232 serial devices to IP networks via a dial PPP interface.
The IP232 is the ideal solution for real-time access to any stand-alone RS232 serial device which is not currently connected to a LAN or WAN. While other solutions have an Ethernet interface for connection to a LAN or WAN, the IP232 offers cost effective access to IP networks for those currently using dial. The IP232 remotely manages and acquires data from serial devices across a PPP dial connection. It calls your ISP, is authenticated, and establishes a connection. It receives and converts serial data to IP packets, sending them to the Internet or private IP/VPN.

Benefits
- Monitors remote serial devices from central location in real time;
- Extends the life of existing serial equipment by connecting to an IP network;
- Eliminates long distance charges by dialing into a local ISP;
- Eliminates service calls with remote configuration and diagnostics capabilities;
- Provides serial devices statistics via standard web browser or Telnet, from any location on the network;
- Allows identity of end device to be known to application;
- Provides redundancy should primary number be unavailable;
- Allows for schedule data requests transmissions;
- Minimizes transaction times during peak periods as the device will stay connected as long as it is not idle for a set period;
- Allows legacy applications to connect directly to IP232 with no changes; modem commands sent by the legacy device or applications are "spoofed";
- Legacy PC applications using dial can connect to the master application via Internet;
- Provides "nicknames" for IP addresses to allow tracking of incoming requests/data;
- Provides enhanced security as device will initiate call to preprogrammed number when called.
- Transparent to existing serial connections;
- Compatible with TCP/IP networks for Internet or Intranet applications;
- Built-in web page server for displaying both static and dynamic web pages;
- Local and remote configuration and software upgrade capability;
- Hardware and software flow control;
- Compatible with TCP/IP networks for Internet or Intranet applications;
- Works with COM Port Redirector Software;
- TCP statistics and connection data available via web browser or Telnet;
- Support for hardware/software/no handshaking;
- Supports any RS-232 asynchronous serial device with 7, 8 or 9 (without parity) bit data;
- Remote password for downloads and configuration;
- Dial in capability;
- Secondary dial phone number;
- Periodic timer for dial-out;
- Idle disconnect timer;
- Modem connection control;
- AT modem emulation (support for FTP through extended commands);
- Auto-identity header for units with dynamic IP;
- Call-back capability for secure dial-in;
- Local and remote password protection;
- Remote logging of wireless network signal strength (currently available for iDEN cellular network);
- Visual status LEDs;
